Avera eCARE® Senior Care based in Sioux Falls, S.D., has reached the milestone of serving 100 facilities with service recently added to the Oakwood Health Campus in Tell City, Ind.

Oakwood Health Campus’ 75 residents are now connected to the Long-Term Care program and have access to 24/7, on-demand acute care right in their rooms. Oakwood is part of Trilogy Health Services, LLC, which manages facilities in more than 100 communities throughout Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio.

“This milestone exemplifies the success of telehealth in senior care facilities across the nation,” said Deanna Larson, Avera eCARE CEO. “With relationships like these we can continue to help onsite providers care for the senior care population with fewer transfers to the hospital setting.”

Since its launch in 2012, eCARE Senior Care has had 110,078 encounters with patients.

  • Over 90% of urgent care telemedicine audio-video encounters resulted in residents being treated in place.
  • More than $3,800 is saved for each patient transfer avoided through telemedicine services, adding up to millions of dollars saved.

eCARE Senior Care supports 24/7 telemedicine services to support skilled nursing facilities, assisted living campuses, independent living locations and home health. The service offers on-demand access to geriatric-trained experts and an interdisciplinary medical team including pharmacists, behavioral health specialists, social workers, RNs and more through two-way, real-time audio-visual technology.

eCARE Senior Care demand continues to increase in the U.S. with the retirement of the Baby Boomer generation that’s 77 million strong. It’s estimated that roughly 10,000 people are turning 65 each day.

“eCARE Senior Care is positioned to partner with assisted living and skilled nursing facilities [JH1] [KT2] so these residents can be cared for in their homes with fewer transports to the hospital,” Larson said. “As we meet this exciting milestone we’re excited to look to the future and continued expansion.”
